The world of electronic components or power supply products is massive. However, the most essential and the most commonly used ones can be put together in a shortlist and this list consists of:
Microcontroller
Transformer
Fuse
Relays
Battery
Circuit Breakers
Switches
Motors
As one of the leading power supply products suppliers, we thought of providing you with some of the basic knowledge of the most important electrical components, so that you have a better understanding while dealing with such electrical products.
The Essential Electrical Components
Electronic circuits are an amalgamation of various electronic components, which include resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, inductors, and integrated circuits.
Resistors: Resistors are present in integrated circuits and it is used to resist the flow of current. They are categorized primarily based on their power ratings- the amount of power they can handle- and their resistance values- the capacity to resist current. The unit of measurement of resistors is the ohm.
Capacitors: Capacitors are yet another electrical component which is used to store electric charge temporarily. Although capacitors are available in varieties, the most commonly used ones are the electrolytic and ceramic disk. The unit used to measure is microfarades.
Diodes: Diodes are also an important component of electricity. Their primary function is to allow the current to flow unidirectionally. They comprise of two terminals- anode and cathode. It is when the anode is positively charged, the cathode is neagtively charged, which further allows the current to flow. However, if it is reversed, the currebt stops flowing.
Transistors: Transistors comprise of three terminals. And for it to function correctly, voltage needs to be applied in the base terminal, and it is the base which then controls the current flow in the two other terminals- namely the emitter and the collector.
Inductors: Known as passive electronic components, inductors are used to store energy in the form of magnetic field. It consists of a coil of wire which is wound around the core, which is usually a magnet or air. In case of a magnetic core, the magnetic field created is much stronger as as the current passes through the inductor.
Integrated Circuits: Like an electrical circuit, an integrated circuit is a special device that has all the electrical components. The components on this device is etched on a tiny piece of silicon.
Transformers: Transformers are constructed with two coils of wire and it is a device which is used for stepping up or stepping down the power supply.
Batteries: These are devices which are used to convert chemical energy to electrical energy. The two different cells of this component are the anodes and the cathodes.
Fuses: This device is used to prevent from overloading of current. It comprises of a connection body, support, contacts and metal-fuse material, which is usually made of zinc or copper.
Relays: These are used to shut power on or off and are electromechanical switches. It consists of an electromagnet, an armature, electrical contacts and springs.
Switches: Switches help to interrupt the current and are available in various types depending on their applications.
Motors: These devices are used to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy.
Circuit Breakers: This functions as a protective device and can be controlled using a remote switch. It prevents from any kind of occurrence of short circuit.
